Choosing a Home School Curriculum

If youâre looking to home school your children, you want to first make sure you have a proper home school curriculum. Each state differs in requirements, so you want to make sure your home school curriculum adheres to the guidelines of your state so that your children are not left behind when it comes time to graduate. There are certain subjects that are required by state law, and though these may be similar among the states, there is some criteria that may differ especially when your children is ready for the high school level.
In some states the home school curriculum is chosen by the school district in which the student lives rather than by the home school teacher. There are books and other materials that the teacher/parent must buy and utilize for the child to receive credit for completing the home school curriculum for that school year. On the other hand some states may offer an option and do not monitor the progress of the student. Before you consider home schooling your child you want to make sure you know the requirements of your state and how you must operate your home school.
Unfortunately some states are choosing to eliminate the option for home schooling for any number of reasons. The sad part of this is that those students who have participated in a home school curriculum fare better on state administered tests than those attending school in a classroom environment. Perhaps some states are trying to avoid the stigma that comes with knowing home schooled children have higher test scores.
