What to Look for When Choosing a Freight Broker

Posted by News Desk on 15th January 2010

If you are a business owner who frequently ships goods or equipment across the country, you know that the company you choose to take care of those shipments is an essential partner in your enterprise. If the goods don’t get where they need to go on time and intact, your business will suffer: plain and simple. When it comes to transcontinental shipping, most experts agree that using a freight broker is the way to go.

A quality broker will have associations with literally thousands of different shipping companies nationwide and will be able to use those connections as leverage to obtain the best possible service and price for you. Here are some qualities to look for when choosing a freight broker.

1. Experience

You’ll definitely want to look at how long the broker has been in the business. Longevity in the shipping industry means that the company has had time to build up a substantial network of shipping connections and really knows how to do it right.

2. Free shipping quote

You should never have to pay an upfront fee just to find out how much you might be paying later. A quality freight brokerage will always be happy to provide a free shipping quote when you contact the company.

3. Attention to customer service

Your satisfaction should always be the goal of a good brokerage. Choose one that has an outstanding reputation for providing the very best in customer service, that will educate you on what to expect if necessary, and that will pay careful attention to your load from delivery onset to final destination.

4. Versatility

You’ll want to choose a freight brokerage that is used to handling a wide variety of different kinds of loads and can ship just about anything. If you have farm equipment to ship one week and a load of dry goods the next, the broker should be able to handle whatever you throw at him.

5. Competitive pricing

The ability to provide a competitive price is directly related to the number of quality shipping companies a broker associates with: the higher the number, the more competitive a price the broker will be able to get for you.

You really can have it all: reliable shipping from anywhere in the U.S to any other location in the country; outstanding customer service; the lowest possible price, and a free shipping quote: just make sure you choose the right broker.

Fostering Creativity In Children

Posted by News Desk on 14th January 2010

For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to be a writer. My first stories and poems were created in the first grade, when I was just beginning to grasp reading and the written language.  My first grade teacher, and older kindly woman with a lisp, gave us notebooks in which we were instructed to write whatever we wanted.  She was an advocate of children’s literacy and would read books to us every day while she sat in a large bright green recliner.  In my elementary school the library was the center of the school with classrooms surrounding it on all sides in a square.  To get from one side of the school to the other, you had to walk all the way around through the hallways.  Cutting through the library was strictly verboten and if the librarian caught you, you were in for it.  In my notebook I wrote a story about an elephant that cuts through the library and causes a huge commotion, greatly upsetting the librarian.  My teacher loved it and encouraged me to continue writing, which I have done ever since.

Kids need someone to foster their creativity.  Without support and encouragement, a child can lose the drive for creativity as they get older.  Lekha School of Creative Writing recognizes this and is dedicated to fostering creative writing in children.  Lekha is a San Francisco creative writing school that offers afterschool and weekend programs as well as spring and summer camps to help foster creativity in children.  Because the imagination is a terrible thing to waste.

Recycling Scrap Metals as a Regular Practice

Posted by News Desk on 13th January 2010

People have been recycling metals for hundreds of years.  Today, re-using metal waste or scrap provides work for many people, especially in developing countries.  Three kinds of metals are recycled.  They are ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals and precious metals.

Ferrous metals contain iron.  They are low in cost and recycled in huge amounts.  Metallic iron called pig iron is produced when iron is heated in a hot industrial stove.  This kind of stove is called a blast furnace.  Pig iron also contains another element, carbon.  Pig iron is useful because it can be formed into solid, heavy objects or objects with unusual shapes.

Another kind of iron is steel, which is iron without the carbon.  Making steel is simply removing the carbon by burning it away.  This makes the steel stronger and easier to cut than iron.  Both pig iron and steel waste or metal scrap in Toronto are useful because they can be melted to make new products.

In countries where there is a shortage of steel scrap, old tin cans are sometimes used.  Tin cans are mostly steel.  They can be melted.  If the scrap is heated before the temperature gets to the melting point, the blast furnace can be more simply designed and less costly.  These simpler furnaces are called foundries.  Products are made in foundries all over the world, but especially in Asia.

Precious metals like silver also are recycled.  Silver can be found in pictures made with old cameras.  And it can be found in X-rays after they have been developed.  X-ray film is very valuable for recycling silver, because both sides of the film are usually developed.

Great Services Saved My Flower Business

Posted by News Desk on 24th December 2009

Growing flowers is one of my wife’s favorite things to do. Our house is surrounded by them. I believe that the vibrant colors of the flowers certainly brighten up even the most gloomy day.

A friend of mine, telling me about her flower arrangement business, said it all started when a friend asked her a favor to make a bouquet of flowers for their anniversary. He was amazed how she was able to create something from a bunch of flowers. From that time on, due to his recommendations, a lot of people approach her to do arrangements for certain occasions like birthdays, anniversaries and to my amazement, weddings.

With the small savings she had, she decided that it’s not such a bad idea after all to start a business which is her field of interest. Her small-scale business expanded due to insistent demands.

At first, she had a problem with regards to storing the flowers. She was able to find a trustworty shipping company that became a life saver. Not only did they deliver the fresh flowers safely to her but they also helped her in transporting the flowers in Toronto without any delay to its destination. A slight delay can ruin a flower business.

There are some flowers which are not easily available in the united states and have to be purchased from other countries. This means that delivery can take two days or more. But for such a long period, she wouldn’t have to worry about her cargo because she can just keep track of their whereabouts by just looking them up on the website of the shipping company.

It is Important to have a Good Resume

Posted by News Desk on 23rd December 2009

After finishing college and finally earning a bachelors degree of whatever course an individual pursues, searching for a stable job is the next challenge to take.  It is a challenge for many individuals because most companies hire employees with good educational background and most particularly, those with high credentials.

Job seekers must give employers a good impression.  By doing so, it is of no doubt that a job seeker will be invited for a series of interviews and tests.  It is a dilemma for most job seekers to impress employers. Why is this so? It is because there are hundreds of job seekers that an employer entertains in a day.  If a job seeker is not fully equipped with enough knowledge and skills, surely, all documents will go to waste.

Impressing an employer begins with a good resume.  An employer only reads the resume for a few seconds before they can come up to a conclusion whether it is necessary to do interviews and tests.  That is why it is important to make resumes that will really persuade the employers.

Resumes are just similar to advertising.  You advertise your own abilities and achievements to those who want to hire you.  If they are not impressed, you won’t be hired.  Ideally, a good resume must contain objectives that will catch an employer’s attention.

Resume writing in Toronto has been a growing business.  Because there are some who do not really know the proper way of writing articles, they entrust their future to experts in resume writing.  If there is a good resume, there is a great possibility of an immediate employment.

We all dream of landing in a perfect job with a salary enough for our daily needs.  and to achieve this dream, it will all start with a good resume.
