Tips To Planning A Funeral

Posted by News Desk on 24th September 2010

Thinking about having a loved one pass away is never something anyone wants to talk about or let alone plan.  However, it is something that you do need to deal with.  If you are close to a loved one, they might put you down as the one to plan their funeral.  Or if you have a spouse die, you are the one that will most likely plan the funeral.

A funeral is definitely a stressful time in one’s life and it can be very difficult to keep everything straight in your mind.  That is why you need to know these few tips so you won’t get stressed out.

One of the first tips is knowing that your loved one has passed away.  When your loved one is gone, the only person that can actually state that they are gone is the physician working on your loved one.  Once that physician has declared your love one dead, they will fill out a certificate.

After the certificate is filled out, you have to then decide where you are going to be putting the body.  You do need to move the body quickly because the body will start to decompose.  Deciding where to store the body does depend on where your loved one passed away.

If your loved one passed away at a hospital, there will usually be someone available to take the body to the hospital morgue.  Your loved one might pass away at a nursing home and if that is the situation, the nursing home will usually have the body taken to the local hospital.

Once the body is stored, you then need to decide on what funeral you are going to have.  You can have either a burial or a cremation, it usually depends on what your loved one requested before they died. Finding a cremation service may be their preferred option. In that case, you can find Quincy MA cremations or a cremation serice anywhere else that offer caring help.

Four Major Methods of Shipping

Posted by News Desk on 24th September 2010

Every day millions of pounds of cargo or freight is shipped all over the world.  When you buy a book for your Aunt’s birthday and send it in the mail, when you pick up a box of cereal at the store, or when you order an mp3 player online, you are participating in the enormous global movement of goods.  Without the immense and complicated system of shipping and trade in which the whole world participates, we wouldn’t have food on the shelves or clothes on our backs.  A few days ago as I was driving down the highway, I noticed a train chugging along the track that ran parallel to the road.  It was loaded with huge freight containers stacked double high.  Train cars stacked with these massive containers were lined up down the track as far as I could see.  It was amazing to think of the sheer number of goods being hauled.

There are four major means of freight shipping transportation: air cargo, van or truck cargo, freight train cargo, and marine cargo.  During the journey to its destination, a package may travel through each method before it arrives.  Marine cargo includes transportation by vessels such as container ships designed to haul freight containers.  Train cargo may include freight containers or cars filled with steel, wood, or coal, transported by train.  Truck cargo includes freight transported by flatbed trucking companies or semi-truck haulers.  Air cargo includes transportation via aircraft.  These shipping methods make it possible to send a package from a tiny town in the Midwestern United States to rural Australia in only a few days.

A Plumber with Promises

Posted by News Desk on 24th September 2010

We all have to admit that life is wonderful and fine -until a plumbing issue comes around. Plumbing is what makes our little worlds inside our homes go around. When there is a leak, a fixture problem, clogged drains, clogged toilets, a water heater malfunction, piping breaks, or what have you, then the world inside slows down for a little while until it’s fixed. Warning signs become plastered on the bathroom doors to stay out or do not use while people quickly run away to a different venue.

When this happens, it is hard to know who to call and who to trust. There are a few things everyone wants from their plumber and those are honesty, cleanliness, and a job well-done. Plumbing in Las Vegas can offer all of that and more. The Honest Plumber promises those things and more. They offer upfront pricing before work is started to ensure there are no surprise fees or hidden costs to the customer.  They also provide lifetime warranties on any new installation, which helps put most of us at ease knowing that is a guarantee behind the work. They also promise to leave your home cleaner than when they found it so a customer won’t have to worry that their home will be in shambles until a problem is fixed.

The Honest Plumber promises to have total customer satisfaction and even dares to make that a guarantee when you call in for service. With service offered around the clock, you can count on even your wildest emergencies to be fixed quickly and efficiently.  It’s what we all look for in a trusted plumber.

Banks vs Credit Unions

Posted by News Desk on 22nd September 2010

Directly after graduation from the University my husband was hired as a vice president of a local credit union here in Massachusetts, he became the quintessential Credit Union advocate and we could no long call the credit union, “the bank.”  He was adamant that it was the “credit union” as philosophically they are very different.

Credit unions here in NJ, NH and MA are all client owned.  There are no stock holders, the members own the assets and it is a not-for-profit institute which make for lower interest rates, lower fees and usually more customer service.  Locally we have Workers’ Credit Union that offers online checking and services, auto, personal, home improvement and credit card loans, e-statements, mortgage and home equities lines, students loans and investment services.  Credit unions offer most of what banks do but cater to a specific clientele.  Workers’ Credit Union is for residence of New Hampshire or Massachusetts or for those who work in these areas.

Banks in Massachusetts have much to offer especially in the way of big business loans and larger scale services but for individual needs, services and fees, credit union in Massachusetts are usually the way to go.  Without for-profit board members breathing down the neck of the executives to make more profit, increase fees and decrease interested rates, credit unions can be more member friendly and more service oriented.

While everyone isn’t as adamant in their loyalty to credit unions as my husband, once you switch your banking needs to a member owner institute you too will begin to see the differences between the two establishments.

Everyday Can be Pay Day

Posted by News Desk on 22nd September 2010

We have a friend who was raised in the inner city of Pittsburgh, it was a tough place to grow up, a tougher place to get out of.  He talks about the cockroaches, the yelling, shootings and despair of his neighborhood.  His step dad is basically illiterate and his mom is working in dead-end job just to pay the rent on their shabby apartment in a terrible neighborhood.  He worked from the age of 16 just to help his mom feed the family.  It is a hard life, the kid is 22 now and trying to permanently escape a tough youth and neighborhood.  He was at our home here in Utah last week when his mom called to say that his step dad had had a heart attack and she had to clear out her sons bank account to pay for the medication.  What do you do?  What are the options?  While I think the check cash services are abused and people lose a lot of valuable money, there are situation like this one, where there simply isn’t the money needed to buy precious commodities like medication and food until the next pay check comes along.  Nevada payday loans and Utah cash advance businesses are available to help people who simply can’t wait until the following Friday to get paid.

While these cash advance systems service a valuable service, be sure and read the fine line before signing.  Interest rates can be exorbitant, so if you can wait to get paid, try to do so.  But sometimes life throws you a curve ball and you have no where else to turn, these business can literally be the difference between hungary children and fed children.  Use prudence and wise judgement and read before you sign.  When times are tough, everyday can be pay day to pay the bills, buy the groceries and get the medications needed.

Fly Your Flag with Pride

Posted by News Desk on 22nd September 2010

The red, white and blue is a magnificent flag, it has grit, beauty and tenacity.  I never can get all the way through the “Star Spangle Banner” without a lump in my throat.  Popular or not, I am a patriot, I love this land of liberty, I love what it stands for what the founding fathers understood that it stands for, freedom and hope for all.  Why are people willing to swim the ocean, sardine themselves in the back of a truck, row over in boats and smuggle themselves in trunks of cars?  All for the same opportunities and privileges we afford ourselves, the hope of a better life for ourselves and our children.  If it wasn’t so, they would just stay home.  But America is the beacon of light for the world, freedoms that we so take for granted are unheard of around the world.  We see our flag flying proudly from schools, churches, government flags flying on court houses, post offices, police stations, offices, parks, and the White House itself along with all the government buildings in Washington DC.  It is a symbol of peace and prosperity throughout the world.

National Capital Flag Co, located in Alexandria, Virginia is the country’s largest supplier of flags, this seems a fitting home for such a company.  They supply flags for all occasions and needs; commercial, private and residential, US Government flags and military flags, business and institute.  Fly our flag with pride and patriotism, fly your state or government flag with honor and distinction.  We are so blessed and so privileged to live in this great land of ours.

Beautiful Homes on the Hill with Exquisite Views

Posted by News Desk on 20th September 2010

Pacific Heights is one of the most beautiful places in the bay area to live.  The views are exquisite, the weather perfect and the location prime.  The old adage of location, location, location is exactly why people choose Pacific Heights as the place to call home. Some of the most prestigious property in the Bay Area lies within the borders of Pacific Heights along with two parks, Lafayette and Alta Plaza, they each sport an amazing view of the bay and the city.  From these vantage points the Golden Gate Bridge, The Marin Headlands and Alcatraz Island can be viewed with ease.

Pacific Heights was first established in the 1870’s when small Victorian Homes were built.  After the turn of the century and the great earthquake that shook the city in 1906 many of these beautiful Victorian homes were replaced with period homes, chateaus and mansions but the Victorian homes can still be seen throughout the neighborhoods.  Several countries have consulates in Pacific Heights; Germany, Italy, Portugal, Greece, South Korean, Vietnam and Russia.  Not a bad gig for a diplomat.  If you are interested in property in this prestigious, prime area call Kathleen Gilheany who has been dealing in real estate for many years and knows how to get things done quickly and right.  The Pacific Heights Real Estate market is high end and it is good to have an agent that specializes in the area.  While the area is definitely on the high end, location, as they say, really is everything in this neighborhood.

Hiring a Public Adjuster is a Smart Move

Posted by News Desk on 20th September 2010

When disaster hits your home in the form of a fire or flood, your first instinct is to call your insurance company.  Of course your insurance company will take proper care of you in such a desperate time, right?  Of course they will get someone out there right away to look over the damages so that you can get a settlement that will help you get your life back in order, right?  Well, unfortunately, not all insurance companies work that fast, and many times, people who have had horrible things done to their home are left waiting weeks before they see any type of reimbursement.

This is where a public adjuster comes in.  All insurance companies have their own claim adjusters that come out to survey the damage done to your home so that they can report what they think you need to be compensated for.  However, because insurance companies are so massive, it can sometimes take a lot of time for their adjuster to come out.  You can hire your own Florida public adjuster, if you live in Florida, to come out and survey the damages for you.  These people are experienced in home damage costs and will handle all of the dealings with your insurance company for you.  They will examine the damages, file the paper work, and take up the case with your insurance company personally so that you can your family can focus on finding a place to stay until things get rolling.  Instead of having to worry about all of the things you lost in that fire or flood, you can worry about the important aspects of life while the public adjuster does the rest of it for you.
