The magic of the .biz domain
Posted by News Desk on 15th October 2007
This is a more general post than usual. It’s about the .biz domain.
So dot biz it hurts
Back when ICANN first introduced the new domain most of were wondering why on earth they were doing it. .com was already great, .net wasn’t bad, .org was useful. Even .xxx might not be all that bad but .biz?
When .biz debuted it was not popular but it was offered at a discount and now, almost six years later I think we finally know why. It’s a honeypot of sorts
.biz = spam honeypot
Because the .biz tld is inexpensive it attracts spammers so that the whole section of .biz domains contain spammers. Thanks to years of pretending like it was a useful domain we finally have the ability to take advantage of what it’s done by completly blocking .biz domains from commenting, sending e-mails or anything else useful.
Finally, .biz has a use.
